MASHMEOVER Esthetics welcomes expecting moms with facial protocols designed specifically for pregnancy. Every treatment uses pregnancy-cleared products only — no retinoids, no salicylic acid above 2%, no TCA peels, no hydroquinone. What we DO use: gentle enzyme exfoliation, hydrating HydroFacial protocols with pregnancy-safe serums, calming LED red-light therapy, and customized facials that address the real skin changes pregnancy triggers.

Every prenatal appointment starts with a trimester check and quick review of any restrictions from your OB. If you're dealing with pregnancy melasma (chloasma), hormonal breakouts, or just want to maintain your skin through the changes — we've built protocols for exactly this.

Understanding

What Pregnancy Does to Your Skin

Pregnancy triggers three major skin shifts: hormonal breakouts (especially first trimester), pregnancy melasma or chloasma (the "mask of pregnancy" — patchy dark pigmentation, usually on the cheeks and forehead), and dryness or dehydration as your body reallocates hydration to the baby.

Your usual skincare routine may stop working — or actively cause problems. Many of the strongest actives that keep skin clear (retinoids, salicylic acid, high-percentage glycolics) are pregnancy-contraindicated. That's where a licensed esthetician who specializes in prenatal protocols matters.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Are facials safe during pregnancy?

Yes — with the right protocol. We use pregnancy-safe cleansers, gentle exfoliation, hydrating masks, and calming LED red-light therapy. We avoid retinoids, salicylic acid, high-strength chemical peels, and essential oils that are not pregnancy-cleared. Every prenatal appointment starts with a review of your trimester and any restrictions from your OB.

What treatments are NOT safe during pregnancy?

We do not perform: retinoid-based treatments, salicylic acid peels above 2%, TCA peels, hydroquinone, most active brightening serums, or aggressive dermaplaning during the first trimester. We adjust protocols for every trimester and coordinate with your OB when helpful.

Can I get a HydroFacial while pregnant?

Yes, with modifications. We swap out any pregnancy-unsafe serums (like salicylic acid or high-percentage glycolics) for pregnancy-cleared alternatives — hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and hydrating peptides. The core deep-cleanse and extraction steps are safe as-is.

When during pregnancy is the best time to get a facial?

The second trimester is the most comfortable window for most clients — nausea is usually settled and you can lie flat for the full treatment. First-trimester facials are fine but we usually keep them shorter. Third-trimester facials are done with a wedge pillow for comfort.

How often should I get a facial during pregnancy?

Once every 4-6 weeks works for most pregnant clients — it maintains skin balance as hormones shift without over-treating. Clients dealing with pregnancy melasma (chloasma) may benefit from more frequent visits with a customized brightening protocol.
