Any legitimate dermaplaning service in Orange County should include all of these — not as add-ons at checkout:

• Consultation and skin analysis. Your esthetician needs to check for contraindications (active acne, cold sores, sunburn, rosacea flare) before touching your skin with a blade.
• Full cleansing. Makeup, sunscreen, and surface oils removed. Skin must be completely clean before the blade goes anywhere near it.
• Sterile, single-use surgical blade. This is non-negotiable. See §3 below.

When dermaplaning isn't the right buy

Not every skin needs to be on a dermaplaning schedule, and I tell clients this at the consultation when it applies. Skip or delay dermaplaning if any of these describe your current skin:

• Active cystic acne or inflammatory breakouts. The blade can spread bacteria across the face and worsen the flare. Treat the acne first, then add dermaplaning back into the plan once skin calms.
• Rosacea or eczema flares in the treatment area. Mechanical exfoliation aggravates barrier-compromised skin. Wait until skin is calm.
• Fresh sunburn or peeling skin. Wait until skin is fully recovered — usually 2 weeks minimum.
• Recent chemical peel or laser treatment. Standard rule: wait at least 7 to 10 days between dermaplaning and any resurfacing treatment.
• Currently on isotretinoin (Accutane) or within 6 months of finishing. Full contraindication.
• Cold sore (herpes simplex) currently active anywhere on the face. Even a distant lesion — the blade can spread the virus.

If any of these describe you, the honest recommendation is a different treatment (or waiting a few weeks) rather than paying for a dermaplane that won't give you the result you're paying for.
